Dixon Brings a canoe to the OVLR Birthday Party... but no paddle...
Ottawa Valley Land Rovers, Inc. is the oldest and largest Land Rover club in Canada. Originally conceived in 1982 as a
local chapter of the Association Of Land Rover Owners of Canada (ALROC) by the ALROC founders, OVLR has grown to an extent where by
December, 1994 it was tied for the third largest club in North America. Membership currently stands at
around 150 members. A three quarter of those Rover owners reside in the Ottawa Valley. The remainder mostly
reside in the United States
The club celebrates its twenty-eighth birthday in June of
2011. Membership is open to all Land Rover enthusiasts (and Range Rovers, Freelanders, Land Rover
Discoverys, and LR3 owners too too!).
OVLR offers the only monthly North American Land Rover Club newsletter and a variety of activities throughout the year, from
mechanical seminars and off-road rallies to social events and family oriented outings. Off-road activities come in several categories. The
light version, which is usually entertainment during a rally or at one of our family summer events, consists of a little "mud bogging" or tours along country lanes. The
heavy stuff, which is usually several days across public lands navigating by compass, topographical maps and aerial photographs, involves bridge building, river fording,
and driving conditions ranging from cedar swamp to rocky hill winching. Throughout the year small groups of club members get together for more informal off road outings as
well as helping each other with technical assistance for those rare moments when their Land Rover might not be the best 4X4XFar.
